Manchester City's Omar Marmoush celebrates scoring his side's second goal during the Premier League match between City and Brighton
Omar Marmoush celebrates his goal for Manchester City against Brighton
Manchester City twice threw away winning positions to draw 2-2 with Brighton. The draw leaves the Blues outside of the top four with Chelsea due to take on Arsenal later in the weekend.
Erling Haaland scored the opening goal to put City ahead early in the first half after Omar Marmoush had been brought down. That goal was cancelled out when Pervis Estupinan curled in a direct free-kick.
Marmoush gave City the lead back when he rifled in from outside the box, only for more slack defending to see Brighton level just after the break. Neither side could find a winner to see the points shared. Here are the player ratings from the game.
Ortega: Stood and watched as a (good) free-kick went in on his side of the goal. Feels like he has lost his authority in goal. 5
Lewis: Put under heavy pressure early on and dealt with it pretty well, stepping up when he could to help the midfield. 6
Khusanov: Unfortunate to see the ball cannon into the goal, although City weren't assured at the back all day. 5
Dias: Could do little to stop two soft goals being scored past Ortega, with marking non-existent for the second. 5
Gvardiol: Made another mistake in the build-up to the first goal and was too casual at the back as Brighton targeted him. 5
Gonzalez: Very good to help City score the first, less so for the equaliser minutes later. Risky to talk back to the ref on a yellow. 6
Gundogan: Did well to find Marmoush for the second but looked lost in a part of the pitch where City used to dominate. 5
Marmoush: City's brightest spark - winning a penalty, taking his goal well and looking for an opportunity more than anyone else. 8
Savinho: Some excellent work outside the box but let down by poor finishing and final touches, as well as a needless yellow card and a few fouls after. 5
Doku: Tried to cause problems whenever he got the ball, even if nothing really fell his way. Unfairly booked for diving when he would have been crunched otherwise. 7
Haaland: Nerveless for the penalty, although a difficult afternoon otherwise against a physical defence. 6
