Eddie Howe names the three Newcastle United players who will become managers, one is…

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has worked wonders on Tyneside since being appointed in 2021.

The 47-year-old dragged the club from probable relegation to the Champions League and two Carabao Cup finals in three-and-a-half years.

Eddie Howe has the chance to make history by becoming the first Newcastle United manager to win a trophy since 1969 when Joe Harvey guided his side to the Fairs Cup.

By no means will it be an easy task, with Newcastle without several players for the trip to Wembley Stadium on Sunday. Anthony Gordon is suspended while Lewis Hall is injured alongside fellow defenders Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.

Opponents Liverpool aren’t without their own injury problems, however, with Arne Slot confirming Trent Alexander-Arnold’s absence for the upcoming final. Fans are already flocking to the capital to absorb the atmosphere ahead of the game with more than 30,000 Newcastle fans in the ground for the game.

This current group of Newcastle players have a lot of leaders amongst the squad, with captain Bruno Guimaraes set to lead the team out at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

With the Magpies eyeing long awaiting piece of silverware, Howe has named three players he believes will go on to become managers after their playing careers.

Eddie Howe shares who will become managers after leaving Newcastle

Like many managers, Howe was a player before moving into coaching. The Newcastle boss spent most of his playing days at Bournemouth before becoming their manager in 2008, saving them from likely liquidation.

A few former Newcastle players have now moved into management, more recently Steven Taylor became manager of Al Qabila in Dubai. Kevin Nolan now manages Northampton Town and Damien Duff recently won the League of Ireland with Shelbourne.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Howe was asked which current Newcastle players can go on to become managers after their playing careers.

“I think we’ve got a few so I’ll go through a couple. I think Joelinton’s definitely one. He’s got a very good tactical brain, he understands the game.

“Sean Longstaff understands the game to a really high level, I think those two immediately strike me.

“Dan Burn’s got an unbelievable presence and a good knowledge of the game and a great attitude, so he’d be a really hard worker. He’d be someone I can see doing it.”

Joelinton’s sensational rise at Newcastle

It’s fair to say that Joelinton was down and out before Howe arrived. The Brazilian was signed by Steve Bruce in 2019 and just couldn’t get to grips with playing as a striker in that system.

By the time Howe arrived there were questions over his future, he was regarded as a ‘£40m flop’ by many.

However, the current Toon boss worked his magic on Joelinton, miraculously turning him into a feared midfielder in Newcastle’s starting XI. His sensational form since Howe arrived has earned him caps for Brazil, even scoring on his debut.

This season, it’s been a similar story with the 28-year-old continuing to stamp his authority in midfield, earning himself another call up to the Brazil squad alongside Guimaraes.

Joelinton will forever go down as one of Newcastle’s biggest redemption arcs, establishing himself as one of the Magpies’ finest-ever players.
