Newcastle plot summer move for £45m Liverpool star

Newcastle plot shock move for Liverpool star Diogo Jota

Liverpool are enduring a difficult period after being knocked out of the Champions League by French champions PSG. Their attention now shifts to the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle at Wembley Stadium. The Magpies, without a major trophy for over half a century, have a golden chance to end their drought on Sunday when they face Arne Slot’s side. While the focus remains on the final, both clubs are already making plans for the summer transfer window.

Ben Jacobs has now revealed that Newcastle are preparing a surprise move for a Liverpool player ahead of next season.

Newcastle plot shock move for £45m Liverpool star Diogo Jota.

Jota made his move to Liverpool from Wolves back in 2020, and not having found a permanent place in the side; he is doing well at Anfield over the years with his contribution to 86 goals. The club acquired him from Wolves on a £45 million transfer deal.

Over the years, he has provided some match-defining moments for the Reds, although he now seems to be falling out of favour. Reports are bountiful that Liverpool is looking to move on Jota with four others come the summer opening.

Newcastle board keeping an eye on the Portuguese

In July, Diogo Jota will enter the final two years of his contract, and Newcastle United has been monitoring his situation closely, as reported by Ben Jacobs. Jacobs mentions that while a departure for Jota is not certain, there exists a very real possibility for interested parties to hold talks with Liverpool over his situation.

Wolves may come into the picture, but Jota has an inclination for European football, preferably in the Champions League, which is something that Newcastle might offer him.

The Journo speaking to GiveMeSport, believes exit is not guaranteed

“A Jota exit is not guaranteed, but there is a realistic possibility that suitors will make an approach to Liverpool to better understand the situation.”

“Wolves may be interested, but Jota wants European and ideally Champions League football. Newcastle may be able to offer him that.”

Newcastle’s eagerness to sign Diogo Jota comes as a bit of a surprise, but this could eventually turn out favorable for Liverpool if they are indeed open to letting go of the Portuguese forward.

The transfer phenomenon has apparently caught out the Newcastle players: as it is, it seems the Reds are looking at both Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon. Of course, this would be some serious price for the summer, but Liverpool might owe the name of Jota to Newcastle for negotiating a lower fee for either Isak or Gordon.

Jota has been a vital asset to Liverpool over the years, and his departure would mean losing valuable experience. With Nunez likely to leave, Jota could find himself in a more prominent role next season if he decides to stay.
