The promoter of a pro-EU demonstration at Rome's Piazza del Popolo on Saturday afternoon, journalist Michele Serra, said around 50,000 people attended the event.
"There are 50,000 of us in the square", said Serra, closing the rally.
"Let's stay in touch", he told demonstrators.
