Real Madrid reignite move for £70 million-rated Tottenham star

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid have reignited their interest in the services of Tottenham Hotspur mainstay Cristian Romero.

Reinforcing the defence will be Real Madrid’s top priority in the next summer transfer window. Despite the unavailability of key defenders, they have somehow coped with the situation, but they want to address that issue ahead of next season.

Tottenham’s Cristian Romero has been linked with Los Blancos over the last 12 months. The Spanish club did take a back seat in their pursuit at one stage, but according to a report from Fichajes, Real Madrid have now revived their interest in the Argentine World Cup winner.

Romero has only gone from strength to strength since joining Spurs in the summer of 2022 from Atalanta. He has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and has helped Argentina win numerous titles on the global stage.

Los Blancos want to sign Romero

While he hasn’t been at his best in the ongoing campaign, Real Madrid are still keen on his signature thanks to his defensive solidity and ability to dominate in physical as well as aerial duels. Los Blancos are on the lookout for a new world-class defender, as injuries to David Alaba and Eder Militao have caused significant problems over the last two seasons.

They seek more depth as well as quality in the heart of the defence and have created a shortlist of players they want to target in the summer. While Arsenal’s William Saliba is quite high on their wishlist, they are also interested in bringing Romero to Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spanish giants could look to make a move for him in the summer, but signing him won’t be easy as Tottenham do not intend on negotiating his departure. With his contract valid until the summer of 2027, the club are in a strong position and don’t need to hastily cash in on him.

While Spurs are not looking to sanction his departure, the lack of European football could work in favour of Real Madrid and allow them to negotiate. The team in white do have other targets, as a result, it will be interesting to see how far they are willing to go to signed the Tottenham star.
