Jonathan David is finally expected to make a move to the Premier League this summer as Newcastle are among clubs lining up an offer.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 25-year-old will have his pick of a number of English sides.

With just months remaining on his current contract at Ligue 1 outfit Lille, offers are being prepared behind the scenes to tempt him into a move.

This comes after Football Insider revealed in January that David will “inevitably” leave Lille when his contract expires despite turning down mid-season interest.

Eddie Howe’s side are set to target the signing of a new striker this summer regardless of the future of Alexander Isak, as Callum Wilson is set to leave Newcastle.

Isak has been linked with moves to the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, but the Magpies remain determined to keep him beyond this summer.

David, meanwhile, has inspired attention from numerous clubs thanks to his outstanding displays for Lille, where he has found the net 23 times this season as he continues to impress.

Jonathan David to make decision after Newcastle offer

Football Insider revealed in October that Newcastle have been monitoring David’s form at Lille and are long-term admirers of the forward.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted the striker will make the final decision about his destination after weighing up offers.

“I remember when David first came onto the scene,” he told Football Insider.

“He was very highly regarded, and still is, but people were talking about him like he was a world-beater.

“He’s gone a bit quiet since then in terms of transfer interest, he’s gone under the radar.

“But a lot of clubs have been keeping a close eye on him and if he’s going to be available for free, I think they’ll all be presenting offers for him.

“It looks like he’ll finally make that move to the Premier League because there is a lot of interest.

“The likes of Newcastle, or any club looking for a striker, will be involved.

“If Wilson is leaving, they need to replace him.

“We know they want to keep Isak but they can’t rely only on him.

*“Ultimately it will be up to the player, he’s going to have to make a decision at the end of the year about where he sees his future and what he thinks is the best offer.*“

Liam Delap emerges among top targets for Eddie Howe

Alongside a potential move for David, Newcastle are planning a number of strikers as the position has become one of their priorities this summer.

Brown told Football Insider on 11 March that Newcastle want to sign Ipswich star Liam Delap, who is high on Howe’s list of targets.

The 22-year-old has also attracted interest from the likes of Man United and Chelsea after picking up 10 goals in 28 games despite Ipswich’s struggles this season.

Delap is said to be keen to remain in the Premier League rather than dropping down to the Championship, but would likely cost a significant fee.
