Falcons Fans Are Pessimist By Nature, But Time For Optimism Is Now

Through the years, Atlanta Falcons fans have endured so much heartbreak.

From only appearing in two Super Bowls and having won neither, to several second-half leads that slipped away, to multiple losing seasons, it is tough being a Falcons fan. But things may be taking a turn for the better for the franchise's future.

Fans of the Atlanta Falcons are often criticized outside of Atlanta for their dedication to this team, and don't get me wrong; some of the opinions may be warranted. However, having an overall record of 398 wins to 512 losses in 60 seasons doesn't move the arrow upwards in any conversation.

The franchise also has 26 seasons of double-digit losses. Most recently, Atlanta missed the playoffs in each of the last seven seasons. But it may be time for the pessimistic fans to sway towards the optimistic side of the spectrum. It appeared that the 2010s would be the decade the Falcons would own, but the monumental collapse against the New England Patriots would put the final nail in the coffin.

Like the Steelers of the 70s, the Niners of the 80s, the Cowboys of the 90s, and the Patriots of the 2000s, the Falcons are still looking to build that dynasty for an annual run at championships.

It was always high hope after high hope, signing veterans past their primes, only to give a glimpse into what could be the start of something special. Things are about to change in Atlanta.

The team now has a dynamic offense with weapons and size at every position, and money isn't being wasted on high-priced veterans past their primes. Instead, you have a defensive coordinator who knows how to scheme and put pressure on opposing quarterbacks, something that Atlanta has lacked for years.

Atlanta also has a young gunslinger at quarterback who can be unorthodox in a good way. Michael Penix Jr. has an excellent internal clock and football IQ. The running back room has a two-headed monster that some teams would drool over having on their roster.

Tight end Kyle Pitts has the potential to be a generational talent at the position. Drake London has the size of Julio Jones and can high-point the football over any defender. The team has weapons in the slot, like Darnell Mooney, who can draw double teams from others.

The defense is being tweaked with young but experienced talent. The Falcons will also look to bolster the defense by more than likely drafting a Georgia Bulldog for the first time with the team's first-round pick in this year's NFL Draft.

It may take a season or two to develop that chemistry, but rest assured, the outlook is extremely bright in Atlanta.
