Everton manager David Moyes said his bond with West Ham’s fans was unbreakable, after watching his team fight out a draw with the club.

Moyes received a warm reception from both the away contingent and his former players after the 1-1 draw at Goodison, in which he saw his West Ham signings Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek combine to give Graham Potter’s team the lead.

Moyes said: ‘I’ve got to say, the players there – I’ve had so many moments with them over the years. I think you build bonds with the majority of them. They’ve got a great team. I know, I spent a lot of the money there. They’ve got some super players.

‘Tomas scored, which was a blow, but it doesn’t surprise me. They are all incredibly talented players. I also think the West Ham supporters have been really, really good to me over the years. I wanted to show my respect to them because of that. They gave me a great send off at West Ham.’

Moyes said his backroom team have been working to develop defender Jake O’Brien, scorer of Everton’s equaliser, who has been a revelation since Moyes arrived and started to play him.

Moyes said: ‘I’m glad he got a goal. He is capable of it. The way we’ve played him, we’ve tried to play him in a hybrid role. The way West Ham played, he had to go and join in higher up the pitch and be an attacking full-back.’
