Report: Newcastle handed major boost over star's long-term future on eve of Carabao Cup final

Newcastle United are preparing for what could be an era-defining game for the club.

Indeed, on Sunday, Newcastle United meet Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley. The club are looking to win a first major domestic trophy since 1955, aiming to go one better than when they were defeated 2-0 by Manchester United in 2023.

Eddie Howe’s squad could soon make themselves legends. While no doubt underdogs for the Carabao Cup showpiece, victory would write their names into club folklore.

One of those players is Bruno Guimaraes. The beating heart of the team from pretty much the moment he first arrived at the club, the skipper could become the first Newcastle captain to lift a trophy since Bobby Moncur.

Guimaraes has been linked with a move away from Newcastle but a major update has emerged on his future before the trip to Wembley.

Big update on Bruno Guimaraes staying at Newcastle United

According to GIVEMESPORT, Newcastle have received assurances Guimaraes won’t be pushing to leave this summer amid interest from Arsenal.

Figures on Tyneside are thought to have been told that the Brazil star currently has little desire to leave, meaning they are relaxed about the links with the Gunners.

Guimaraes is said to be fully focused on winning the Carabao Cup and is satisfied with the current trajectory the team is on under Howe.

As such, he wants to help Newcastle succeed, rather than move to any of their rivals in pursuit of silverware.

How much did Newcastle United pay for Bruno Guimaraes?

Newcastle paid around £40million to sign Guimaraes and, frankly, it looks like a bargain.

The midfielder has been an ever-present in the side under Howe, emerging as a cult-hero among the fanbase because of his character as well as his quality.

Guimaraes sings Newcastle songs when they win, such is his love for the club. Even aside from what he can do on the ball, the fact he’s seemingly such a huge supporter of the team makes him an even better addition to the squad.

Modern football is full of players who are always looking to move on. In Guimaraes, Newcastle have something special.
