Dele Alli sent off just 10 minutes into his first match in over two years

Dele Alli was sent off just ten minutes into his Como debt to continue his disastrous career

Dele Alli suffered another setback on the pitch after being sent off just 10 minutes into his debut for Como against AC Milan - which was his first game of football for more than two years.

The former Tottenham and Everton star has endured a difficult few years on and off the pitch after falling out of favour at Spurs and being sent to Goodison Park.

He also struggled to impress with the Toffees and was sent on loan to Besiktas - where he was slammed by his manager before the move was terminated early. Everton gave him a chance to prove himself the following season - even after his contract expired - before he opted for a fresh start with Serie A side Como.

Alli's debut for Como came sooner than expected and there was huge excitement to see the England international back in action after he was brought into the action by manager Cesc Fabregas for Lucas Da Cunha in the 81st minute.

But just 10 minutes later, Alli was given a straight red for a dangerous challenge on former Chelsea star Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The referee initially showed a yellow card before VAR recommended a review, which showed Alli stamped on the ankle of Loftus-Cheek with his studs up.

As the official approached Alli to show the red card, his former Tottenham team-mate Kyle Walker immediately sprang to life, pleading with him not to dismiss the midfielder - knowing the struggles he has endured to get back on the pitch.

Alli looked stunned as he came off the field as he completed the sixth red card Como have had this season and gives boss Fabregas a huge headache.

The 28-year-old has been vocal about the difficulties and mental battles he has struggled with in his career, after an emotional interview with Gary Neville in 2023 revealed sexual abuse and addiction in his life.

Before the Milan game, his coach Fabregas had revealed he was closing in on a return and vowed to "take care" of the player. He said: "[Alli] is not yet ready to play, he will be on the bench tomorrow as well, and then we'll seeā€¦ I need to feel the right moment to bring him in.

"He is growing and making important progress. We need to guide him, take care of him, and get him on the field in the best possible condition."
