West Ham 'fear' transfer failure after scout visits London Stadium in Chelsea and Tottenham…

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur could be licking their lips at news of West Ham transfer ‘fear’.

West Ham are ‘fearful’ that they will miss out on the transfer race for Lille talisman Jonathan David, despite the player’s agent being present at the London Stadium to watch Graham Potter’s side against Newcastle United.

GiveMeSport claim that the Hammers face ‘stiff competition’ for the striker despite Potter telling the club’s chiefs that he wants to work with the player. The report claims a similar feeling is being felt for the pursuit of David’s teammate Angel Gomes, who has also been linked with a move to West Ham.

Both David and Gomes are out of contract at the end of the season and are now free to sign pre-contract agreements with a new club. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with an interest in David, who is a Canada international.

West Ham ‘fearful’ of transfer hijack

ExWHUemployee reported that David’s agent was spotted in the stands at the London Stadium on Monday night for the 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United. The outlet said: “Jonathan David’s agent was in attendance on Monday night, which we understand was the club wooing his team of representatives as we try and land the player as a signing this summer.”

That was perhaps not the most positive 90 minutes of football for the scout to watch with a lack of quality from either side, a Bruno Guimaraes goal enough to inflict defeat in front of a home crowd under the lights. The Magpies are also said to be interested in David, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Potter has a shortage of striking options at his disposal. The £27 million Niclas Fullkrug has been injury ridden while Michail Antonio wasn’t at his prolific best even before his horror injury in a car crash. Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus is all too aware of his lack of form himself while Evan Ferguson is only on loan from Brighton and is set to return to the AMEX at the end of the season.

Jonathan David confirms transfer plan

Speaking in February, David said: “Yes, I’ll leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. And as far as my future, I hope to grow. To become better, and play at the top clubs in the world, if I can.

“First of all, though, I just want to enjoy myself. And never forget that football is about fun.

“You’ll all know [my destination] when the time is right. That’s at the end of the season. I’m not going to comment before then. First of all, I want to end this season well. The finale promises to be exciting, and I want to play well and help the team out. Then when the season is over, my decision will be made and announced.”

In other news, this is how the West Ham players rated in that 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United with a standout getting a 9/10.
