Pittsburgh Steelers' QB fallback plan just got much harder

The Pittsburgh Steelers' potential fallback plan to land Kirk Cousins has just become much harder. Cousins will be on the Atlanta Falcons roster today at 4 p.m., guaranteeing him $10 million. It makes his contract much harder to move, and could be a sign he will stay with the Falcons.

The Falcons could try to move Cousins' contract for a draft pick by taking on much of his salary. Cousins has expressed he would like to leave the Falcons for a new team where he could start this season.

Coming off a torn Achilles in 2023, Cousins never fully looked like himself after surgery and a return. Still, the Falcons signed him to a four-year, $180 million contract that made him a highly compensated quarterback.

In his one season with the Falcons, he threw for 3508 yards with 18 touchdowns and a league-leading 16 interceptions in just 14 starts.

This would be an appealing option if Cousins came cheap, but now that he is locked into that bonus, that ship has sailed away, and it makes much less likely the Steelers would be involved.
