As the Pittsburgh Steelers kick the tires on their quarterback decision, they've made their biggest trade since acquiring Minkah Fitzpatrick in 2019. The Steelers officially acquired former Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf on Thursday, immediately bolstering the credibility of the passing offense and giving themselves one of the most feared receiving duos in the sport.
Metcalf was introduced to the media on Thursday, expressing his excitement to join the organization and what he hopes to achieve alongside George Pickens.
He doesn't yet know what quarterback will help him hit those goals.
After starting Justin Fields and Russell Wilson in 2024, Pittsburgh watched both hit the open market. Fields quickly signed with the New York Jets on a two-year, $40 million deal. Wilson, meanwhile, is considering the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns, with the Steelers lingering in the background should Aaron Rodgers sign elsewhere.
Wilson might not be throwing to Metcalf in September but he did react to the Steelers star's engagement, which he announced at the presser.
On FaceTime with his wife, Ciara, Metcalf, and the receiver's fiancée, Normani, Wilson got to celebrate the good news.
"[Russell] and I knew when we intro-ed y'all three years ago ... love was truly in the air!" Ciara posted. "Now y'all gon be booed up forever!! This was the best news! We love y'all so much!"
It shouldn't have been a surprise that Wilson had the news ahead of time. He was, as Metcalf revealed, the one who played matchmaker with the size/speed/strength dynamo and the pop star.

"I talked to Russ yesterday," Metcalf said. "I proposed to my fiancée. He's the one that connected us, so he was giving us congratulations on that."
Wilson was Metcalf's quarterback for the first three seasons of his career, from 2019-2021. The two found significant success, with the receiver quickly emerging as a near-elite option. Metcalf posted 216 catches, 3,170 yards, and 29 touchdowns in those three seasons before Wilson's divorce from Seattle.
He eventually found new homes with the Denver Broncos and the Steelers, but that connection clearly hasn't withered with time. With any luck, Pittsburgh might get to play host to their reunion in 2025.
