Aaron Rodgers Move Could Lead to Trade of J.J. McCarthy

Former New York Jets starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants to be a Minnesota Viking this season. That's the latest report coming out of The Athletic.

There's just one problem with Rodgers' hopes.

Minnesota already has a quarterback. Former 10th overall pick J.J. McCarthy hasn't played in an NFL game yet to start his career due to a torn meniscus. As he continues his recovery, though, questions have begun to be asked about his potential ceiling just a year after being a first-round pick.

Should the Vikings end up rolling with Rodgers this season, there is a rumored chance Minnesota looks to move on from McCarthy at this point in his career - as ludicrous a thought as that may be.

Should that happen, the Jets should run to the phones to get a deal done for the former Michigan star.

The National Championship winning quarterback played well in college when led by Jim Harbaugh.

Had McCarthy (still only 22 years old) waited a year to come out to the NFL Draft, he would easily be the first quarterback taken in this current class. He has the kind of arm and athleticism that teams look for at the professional level.

The Jets could, in theory, acquire him for draft picks if the Vikings aren't patient enough with his own rehab and if they want to compete for a Super Bowl this season with Rodgers at the helm.

As crazy as it may seem for a team to move on from a quarterback they had just drafted a year ago, the Vikings may simply want to get a Super Bowl out of their current core.

And that could lead the Jets to trading for their eventual franchise quarterback in the end.
