Manchester United head to Leicester City for a Premier League clash on Sunday night
Manchester United are set to bolstered by the return of Mason Mount at Leicester City on Sunday evening with the former Chelsea player set to be named on the bench at the King Power Stadium.
Mount has not played since the Manchester derby victory over Manchester City back in mid-December. Ahead of the visit to Leicester, Amorim said: "We need him and every player. He cannot play too many minutes but just five minutes of Mason Mount is perfect."
The Red Devils also hope to have Harry Maguire back to face his former club. The defender has not played since picking up an injury the fifth round FA Cup loss to Fulham. He has scored against the Foxes already this season, as he netted a 93rd-minute winner in the FA Cup fourth round at the start of February. Ahead of Sunday’s third meeting of the season between United and Leicester, we have rounded up the latest injury news from both clubs.
Leicester City injury news
Leicester are in much better shape in terms of injuries compared to United, as they have just one player who will miss Sunday’s game through injury. That is Abdul Fatawu, who is out for the season with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that he sustained back in November.
"We have a fully fit squad apart from Abdul Fatawu," Ruud van Nistelrooy confirmed on Friday.
The Foxes did welcome Ricardo Pereira back from injury against Chelsea last weekend. On his return, Van Nistelrooy added: "He was really good. We changed the structure in last 10 minutes to go for it, and as an inverted full-back he created some dangerous situations and we're pleased to have him back.
"It was a tactical change at the time of the Chelsea game. He can work as a wing-back but also as an inverted full-back in a back four, so it's about working the system to give us the better opportunities to score."
Manchester United injury news
While Mount and Maguire are both due to return, the game is set to come too soon for midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. Amorim said in his pre-match press conference: “Kobbie, maybe he will return in a few weeks, I don’t know for sure.”
Leny Yoro is another player who will miss the game against Leicester but could be back after the international break while Patrick Dorgu will also return in April as he serves the final match of his three-game ban. Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans and Altay Bayindir remain out and it is unclear when, or if, they will return before the end of the season.
Lisandro Martinez is out for the season and possibly into next campaign after a serious knee injury while Amad Diallo could return before the final games after initially being ruled out until 2025/26. United end their Premier League campaign with a trip to Chelsea and home game with Aston Villa while there is also the potential for them to be involved in the Europa League final.
In other news, Joshua Zirkzee has given a one-word verdict on Manchester United star who has earned Ruben Amorim trust.
