Report: After Angus Kinnear exit, Premier League club now want to raid Leeds United for Nick Hammond

Angus Kinnear’s move to Everton at the end of the season has been confirmed and now, Kinnear could be followed in leaving Leeds United by two senior members upstairs at Elland Road.

After eight years at Elland Road in which Kinnear has had to deal with the latter stages of Massimo Cellino and the topsy-turvy, impulsive ownership of Andrea Radrizzani, Kinnear also oversaw The 49ers’ takeover.

Leeds are now set for life without Kinnear who is about to join Everton this summer. Kinnear has opted to stay until the summer to help Leeds in their bid to secure automatic promotion from the Championship.

Leeds have since moved to replace the loss of Kinnear by appointing the experienced Peter McCormick as Paraag Marathe’s vice chairman. But Leeds may be forced into a couple of other replacements, soon.

Angus Kinnear wants Leeds United duo with him at Everton

During Daniel Farke’s era at Leeds United, Nick Hammond has played a pivotal role with transfers. He was initially brought in temporarily but has since made the role his own, with Leeds’ recruitment working well.

He and scout Gary Penrice have worked well since joining in 2023. The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports on his Patreon that Kinnear wants Penrice and Hammond with him, which would see Penrice return to Everton.

Whether Leeds would allow this remains to be seen but it might be that they have little choice if the duo want a move to Everton to continue working with Kinnear. Leeds are in danger of a summer overhaul.

Leeds must sort upstairs quickly or struggle in crucial window

Promotion or not, this summer is going to be a pivotal window for Leeds. A place in the Premier League means the club will be required to invest heavily to stand any chance of survival in England’s top tier.

Failure to do so will mean the club’s best stars are sold as parachute payments are reduced from 45% to 20%, the final year in which Leeds would receive any payments. Leeds need to quickly sort things out.

Losing Hammond and Penrice alongside Kinnear will come as a massive blow, Hammond perhaps more so than Kinnear. If Leeds are to have a good summer, then these issues need to be sorted out quickly.
