KABUL — The Taliban-run National Environmental Protection Agency announced that $9.98 million has been approved to combat climate change in Afghanistan, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
According to the agency, the budget was approved under the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and will support a project aimed at community-based climate resilience through afforestation and livelihood improvements.
A statement from the agency said that $8.98 million will be provided through the GEF, while the remaining $1 million will come from internal resources within the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The five-year project will be implemented in the provinces of Badakhshan and Kunar, focusing on reforestation and improving local livelihoods to strengthen resilience against climate change.
