Viktor Gyokeres continues to be heavily linked with a move to the Premier League as the summer transfer window approaches.

The 26-year-old, who is under contract at Sporting Clube de Portugal until 2028, is thought to have a 'gentleman's agreement' that would allow him to leave at the end of the season for less than his €100million (£84m) release clause. He is not short of potential suitors with the likes of Manchester United, City, Liverpool, Arsenal and clubs in Europe all monitoring his situation.

However, It's said that a move to the Premier League is his 'wish' though reports in Portugal have stated that Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are his preferred options outside of England. The Swedish striker was once again on the scoresheet during Sporting's 3-1 league win over Famalicao on Saturday.

After the game, Gyokeres was quizzed about the transfer rumours. He said: "No, nobody has spoken to me. It's not something I think about or that is in my mind. Rumours, once more. My focus is on being here."

Journalist Fabrizio Romano, meanwhile, issued an update on Gyokeres recently, claiming that Sporting would likely accept fees around €65m to €75m (£54m-£63m). "That's a very good price for one of the best strikers in Europe in terms of numbers," he said on his YouTube channel.

"All the top clubs in Europe are going very strong for Gyokeres in the summer. I've been informed this price could be enough to land him. Many clubs are exploring the situation and are ready to present their project to Viktor Gyokeres."

However, he is focused on surpassing last season's goal record, where he bagged 43 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions. This season, he has scored 40 goals in 41 appearances.

"Of course [I can surpass it]. There are eight games left in the league, so of course I'll try to beat last season's record," Gyokeres added.

Rio Ferdinand has claimed Gyokeres would struggle physically in the Premier League amid speculation linking him to United. The former centre-back said on his YouTube channel: "I don't think he's the guy, Gyokeres, for me.

"I've watched him probably three times closely, and three times I've gone, 'he ain't getting those opportunities in the Premier League'. When I see him physically matched, I don't see what else there is. That's the question I'm asking: is there enough after he's physically matched to get him a goal?"
