Ruben Amorim: "We need every player" as United look push on from emphatic Sociedad win against Leicester

Manchester United travel to the King Power Stadium to face relegation fighters Leicester City in a game that could see the Reds push closer to the top half of the Premier League table.

Last time out against the Foxes, United came back from a goal down to win 2-1 and knock the side out of the FA Cup, thanks to a 93rd minute header from the inform Harry Maguire.

Prior to this the clubs had already met twice, with the now Leicester head coach Ruud Van Nistelrooy leading United to victory on both occasions in his short term in charge of the club, following the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

However, the great escape starts for Leicester today as the club drastically need a win if they withstand any chance of remaining in the Premier League next season!

For United on the other hand, despite their incredibly poor season and inconsistent form, their mid-week victory in Europe against Real Sociedad sheds some light on the remainder of the season as the hope for Champions League football is not lost.

This brilliant performance may boost the confidence of the squad as they look to make it four in four tonight against Leicester.

United boss, Ruben Amorim, has spoken to the media ahead of this exciting clash.

With United struggling with an injury depleted squad in the last few weeks, Amorim was asked about who may or may not feature this Sunday.

"I think we have Mason Mount, he's going to return really, really slow. Kobbie, maybe he will return in a few weeks, I don't know for sure. Harry Maguire, we'll try not to risk, we'll see for Sunday. We need all the players."

He was asked to expand on Mason Mount's potential return.

"I already said that I really love Mason Mount. Because I see him, I know how he suffers, I know he does everything right. He eats right, his physical aspect is perfect. He's trying too much."

"Maybe he's thinking too much about everything. He was a European champion. He's a really talented player.

“And when the player does everything like he does, he will always have the support of everybody here in the club. So we will try to manage the load. And you already saw some players that had a lot of problems during one time."

On the 3-4-3 system and form

Amorim was asked if we will be able to utilise his system against Leicester the same way he did against Sociedad.

"I think that is clear because it's a lot of duels. It's man-to-man, basically. Especially where the ball is, it's man-to-man.

”So it's going to be so much physical. It's a different game and we have to use different positions and different tools to win the game."

"If we think we are going to play the next game [against Leicester] the same way we played today, it's a mistake because it's a completely different team that we are going to face. And the physicality is really important, especially in our league."

He also gave a quick overview on the teams current form and his idea.

"I know that in football, especially in our moment, we can have a really good moment and then drop really fast, so our focus is to continue. Don't be too happy, too depressed. So my idea is to continue, we have to survive."

"That definition could change in the end, but our idea is to improve the team, to be prepared fresh for the game against Leicester, and not focus a lot and changing our mind because we will win or lose."

On the skipper

After Bruno Fernandes' phenomenal display and hattrick on Thursday night in Europe, Amorim spoke about his captain fantastic!

"I think he's so important for this team. And you can see it by the numbers. And you can see from these last games, he's always the guy that scores.

“It's not the most important thing, it's not the only thing, but he’s always there."

"When you play for this team, you have to be prepared for the critics [referring to criticism on Bruno]. And I understand that the former players had a lot of success here, the standards for them were so high.

“They see things like that, sometimes it's black and white in life, sometimes it's not just black and white, there are some other colours and you have to understand the context. Again, he's always there, trying his best. So I'm really proud to coach a player like him."
