They have become as ubiquitous as the goals he scores for Liverpool - the Mohamed Salah post-match selfie. And the Egyptian superstar has explained the origin behind the posts and who he'd like to be pictured with after today's Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United at Wembley.

Salah will head into this afternoon's showpiece (4.30pm kick-off) in fantastic form. He leads the Premier League Golden Boot and Playmaker standings with 27 goals and 17 assists respectively.

And while he was unable to add his overall tally of 32 goals for the campaign in the heart-breaking midweek Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, the 32-year-old will be the man Newcastle have to stop in afternoon's massive match.

Salah has actually only scored one goal in seven appearances for Liverpool at Wembley. But given the season he is enjoying, you would not be surprised to see his name on the scoresheet against the Magpies.

And should a goal be accompanied by a record-breaking 11th League Cup success for the Reds, then expect a social media post after the game.

Salah has made a habit of posting pictures of himself and team-mates who have also found the back of the net. And asked by Sky Sports who he would like to feature alongside if Liverpool are triumphant today, he said: “I would say Virg (Virgil van Dijk). Robbo (Andy Robertson) doesn’t score much! Alisson (Becker) is really tricky!

“I always love to see Dominik (Szoboszlai) but I would say Virgil. Hopefully one day (for Robertson)."

Van Dijk was Liverpool's match-winner in the 2023-24 Carabao Cup final after his last-gasp header sealed an heroic 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

Salah was one of a host of first-team players to be ruled out of that game through injury.

But he is certain to start the clash with Newcastle and asked about how the post-match selfie started, he said: "I just did it after three or four games and just kept going. I asked someone in the media at the club, he is very close to me and he told me it’s a good idea so just try it, and it’s working well."

Salah was also asked about who will be the last person he speaks to before facing Newcastle in the final. He said: "I would say my mum. I call her on the phone all the time.

"Since I started my career, I call her every day before a game, on the way to the stadium. I always call her. She just sends me a prayer and wishes me good luck."
