Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been handed a potential injury blow ahead of the Premier League clash against Leicester City, with goalkeeper Andre Onana a major doubt for the game.
United travel to the King Power Stadium tonight (Sunday, 7pm kick-off), as they face the Foxes for the fourth time this season. The game will see them again come up against former striker and now Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Onana faces a late fitness test ahead of the game, after feeling unwell on Sunday morning. The goalkeeper still intends to make the journey to the Midlands and is optimistic himself that he could start, with the late kick-off time giving extra time for him to recover.
However, plans are in place in case he doesn’t recover in time for the game. With both Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton unavailable through injury, it means that United will have to turn to the Development squad for a potential replacement.
The two options for Amorim are 22-year-old Dermot Mee and 19-year-old Elyh Harrison. Neither have played a first team game for United
Mee has played in seven games for the development squad so far this season, conceding a total of 10 goals and keeping two clean sheets. Harrison spent the first half of the season on loan with National League North side Chester, before returning to Old Trafford in January.
During his six months with the non-league side he played 18 times, conceding 16 goals and keeping seven clean sheets. He has also featured five times in Premier League 2 for United’s Development squad, conceding six goals and keeping two clean sheets.
Both players have been named on the bench for both legs of the Europa League tie over Real Sociedad and the Premier League clash against Arsenal. One may now have to make the step up as United take on Leicester.
