How about them Wizards? The Wizards find themselves on a pretty solid streak after the All-Star break. That's already pretty impressive given where this team was earlier this season. The fact that they've beaten some playoff teams gives a lot of fans hope for the future.
The young Wizards' latest achievement comes in the form of a huge win against one of the best teams in the league. Thanks to a wild dagger from Jordan Poole, Washington was able to steal a game from the Nikola Jokic-led Denver Nuggets.
While Poole will obviously take most of the attention due to his buzzer-beater (and deservedly so), one of the Wizards' young stars had a breakout game. Alex Sarr, the Wizards' second-overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft, went off for 34 points, six rebounds, and five assists, showing why he was one of the top prospects last year.
Sarr's 34-point outburst has earned him a spot in the Wizards' history books. The Wizards' PR account on X reported that Sarr is now the youngest player to score 30 or more points in Wizards history.
"At 19 years, 323 days, Alex Sarr is now the youngest player in franchise history to record a 30+ point game.", the account said.
Sarr shot 12-for-28 in their win over the Nuggets, making five of his nine three-point attempts. It was an uncharacteristically quiet night for him on defense, though he did still record a steal and a block.
With the win, the Wizards jump to 15-51 for the season. They find themselves just two games behind the Charlotte Hornets to escape the cellar in the Eastern Conference. While these wins hurt their chances of getting a top draft pick, it feels worth it due to Sarr's elite performances.
