Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks in Doha on Sunday with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov to discuss bilateral ties and the Ukraine war.
A statement by the emir’s office, the Emiri Diwan, said the discussions dwelt on bilateral relations and a number of issues of common interest.
A Foreign Ministry statement said Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman also met with Manturov to discuss ways to foster bilateral cooperation relations and the latest developments of the Russia-Ukraine crisis as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Sheikh Mohammed reiterated Qatar’s support for all international efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Russia-Ukraine crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means, the ministry said.
No details were provided about the duration of Manturov’s visit.
US and Ukrainian delegations held talks in the Saudi city of Jeddah earlier this week. While Ukraine agreed to a temporary truce with Russia, the US resumed intelligence sharing and military aid it had suspended with Kyiv after a public spat at the White House between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
On Feb. 24, 2022, Russia launched a military offensive against Ukraine. Moscow demands Kyiv abandon aspirations to join Western military alliances as a condition for peace, a stance Ukraine views as “interference” in its sovereignty.
