Gold seized at Mumbai airport in two separate cases
Mumbai: : Two cases of gold smuggling were unearthed at the city airport in Sunday. The first case unfolded when officers intercepted a private airport staff member and found two pouches of 24KT gold dust in wax concealed in his undergarments. The seized gold weighed 1687 grams gross and 1610 grams net, valued at Rs 1.31 crore. In the second case, customs officials s discovered two black pouches hidden among trash from the aircraft's lavatories and pantry. The pouches contained gold dust in wax with a gross weight of 3.269 kilograms and a net weight of 3.120 kilograms,valued at Rs. 2.53 crore. All the seized gold across the two cases was confiscated under the Customs Act, 1962.
