Ex Steelers Running Back Has Name Removed from High School Facility

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to make news this offseason as they patiently wait for an answer from Aaron Rodgers to see if he'll accept a contract to be their next quarterback.

While the rest of us wait for Rodgers' answer, a former Steelers running back is making news as free agency continues.

Six seasons after he last made news on the football field, former Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell is back in the news.

Recently, TMZ reported that Bell received a $25 million judgment against him in a civil case alleging rape after he failed to respond to the original lawsuit.

Now, Bell's former high school is also taking action against him.

According to WCMH in Columbus, Ohio, Groveport Madison Schools has removed Bell's name from it's facility, citing the recent judgement as well as his failure to honor a financial commitment to the school.

Bell previously promised a donation of $750,000 to the school.

"While he initially made four payments of $75,000 each, totaling $300,000, his last payment was received on December 9, 2020," the school district said in a statement. "Despite attempts to address the delinquent payments, Mr. Bell has discontinued further payments, resulting in a breach of contract.

"As a result, the district has moved forward [on March 13, 2025] with removing his name from the stadium entrance, scoreboard, and field turf."

The school district also cited a clause in the contract to terminate the deal because of "any offense . . . involving moral turpitude."

"In light of a civil suit that found Mr. Bell liable for over $25 million for serious misconduct involving a minor, the district determined that continuing to honor the naming rights agreement was no longer appropriate or aligned with the values of Groveport Madison Schools," the district said.
