Multiple quarterbacks continue to find new homes while Pittsburgh Steelers wait

Quarterbacks continue to fly off the free agent backup and spot starter market as the Pittsburgh Steelers wait for Aaron Rodgers. Cooper Rush is heading to the Baltimore Ravens to be the backup for Lamar Jackson, and will get $12 million over two seasons.

Rush is just the latest player of this tier to come off the market. Gardner Minshew and Taylor Heinicke are both off the market, too. With that market dwindling, the true backup options for the Steelers remain Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, Jameis Winston, and Carson Wentz.

Rodgers is simply waiting and biding his time to decide. Meanwhile, Wilson has taken his visits, but is in limbo as Rodgers waits to decide where he wants to go. The Steelers could go back to Wilson if Rodgers goes elsewhere, or dip their toes into the secondary market, even after signing Mason Rudolph to be the presumable backup quarterback on a two-year contract.

Rudolph went 1-4 in his starts in 2024, throwing nine touchdowns and nine intercpetions while amassing 1530 over the year. Now, Rudolph is back in Pittsburgh and could get a chance to play.
