Bruno Guimaraes makes Alan Shearer request moments after Newcastle United break 70-year trophy…

Bruno Guimaraes delivered a beautiful message just moments after Newcastle United’s historic Carabao Cup triumph over Liverpool and made a request of fans.

Newcastle United’s 70-year wait for a trophy finally came to an end after they defeated Liverpool 2-1 in an epic Carabao Cup final.

Eddie Howe’s side were by far the better team, with goals in either half from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak securing a remarkable victory at Wembley.

Federico Chiesa pulled one back deep into added time to set up a nerve-shredding closing stretch but it was to be Newcastle’s day.

In the aftermath, captain Bruno Guimaraes labelled it the ‘best day’ of his life and he now hopes fans will chant his name like Alan Shearer’s.

Bruno Guimaraes’ instant reaction to Newcastle win over Liverpool

Speaking to Sky Sports within minutes of the full-time whistle at Wembley, a tearful Guimaraes delivered a beautiful message. He said: “It’s all for these fans. They deserve everything. When I first came here I said I wanted to put my name in history.

“We can now say we are the champions again. This is one of the best days of my life.

“I don’t have any words. It’s the best day of my life. For them [the fans] it’s like the World Cup.

“People have grown up and not seen us as champions. My first year as captain of this club and it’s one of the best days. This is unbelievable.

“This is my second home. We are making history. Some day when I leave this club I want the fans to sing my name the way they do to Shearer. He text me before the game. I’m so emotional today.”

It won’t be another 70-year wait for a trophy for Newcastle

If there’s one thing for sure, Newcastle won’t be waiting another 70 years before they lift a trophy again.

There have been ups and downs since the PIF takeover but Howe has received backing of the owners and has now delivered.

Even without massively changing his squad, he has made several players better and Newcastle a force capable of beating anyone on their day.

This will be the first trophy of many.
