Arsenal increasingly likely to part ways with veteran duo this summer

Jorginho and Thomas Partey are likely to leave Arsenal in the summer, with replacements already planned in the background.

According to Give Me Sport, Jorginho and Thomas Partey are highly likely to leave Arsenal in the summer when their respective contracts expire. The experienced duo may have viable suitors in the market, with the Gunners already planning on bringing the right replacements in the background.

Arsenal are set for an important summer window, with Mikel Arteta planning on bringing in key signings to bolster his strong squad. One of the main focuses will be improving the attacking setup, with at least two forwards expected to arrive including a striker.

While the attack seems like a priority area, Arsenal may have to refresh their midfield ranks as well, given there are two big departures on the horizon. Thomas Partey and Jorginho are coming to the end of their contracts at the club, and they are highly likely to depart on a free transfer.

Partey is expected to leave the club as there has been no new offer forthcoming from Arsenal. The Ghanaian midfielder’s time at the Emirates has been blighted by niggling injury issues, although this season he has been relatively free of fitness troubles, which did point towards a new deal earlier.

Jorginho is also expected to leave and sign a pre-contract agreement with Brazilian side Flamengo. There is an ongoing argument to keep hold of the Italian due to his experience and what he brings to the table even as a bit-part player. David Ornstein’s comments on the situation of the beteran duo indicate the chances of them departing in the summer are highly likely.

Ornstein said, “Not settled yet [exits for Partey and Jorginho], as far as I’m aware, but a very good chance. It may be influenced by the status of potential arrivals in that position.”

Arsenal looking at midfield reinforcements

Arsenal are already in the market for fresh midfield reinforcements, as they are close to signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The agreement for the Spaniard might have reached as early as January, with the midfielder expected to complete his move in the summer.

Incoming sporting director Andrea Berta has earmarked Bruno Guimaraes as a big target, and it would appear that Arsenal are not thinking about one of the Newcastle United star or Zubimendi, as they could target both. Either way, there will be a sense of optimism if they can manage both those signings as the Gunners would need to replace Partey and Jorginho with high-quality alternatives.
