'We deserved to win' - 'Emotional' Eddie Howe reacts to Newcastle's Carabao Cup victory
Newcastle United ended a seven-decade drought on Sunday when they defeated Liverpool 2-1 to win the Carabao Cup.
The Magpies were deserving victors as they attempted 17 shots over the course of the match, more than double the number of their opponents. However, the Reds made the final few moments uneasy for Newcastle when Federico Chiesa scored in stoppage time to pull Liverpool to within a goal.
That was as close as the Premier League leaders would get as Newcastle held steady through to the final whistle, with Dan Burn and Alexander Isak's goals powering the side to their first major domestic torphy since 1955.

“I am very very emotional and been all day which is unlike me," Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said after the match.
"We knew what was at stake today for all of our fans, we wanted to do them proud and win the trophy.
"I am so, so pleased with the result and the performance - we deserved to win today."
Howe admitted that the moments after Chiesa's late strike were hard to get through as the Magpies were deseperate to avoid allowing an equaliser.
"It was tough when Liverpool scored," he said. "I was thinking about [the possibility of] extra time, we always make it difficult for ourselves. It was never going to be 2-0."
Winning a trophy is always a milestone for any club, but Howe said the Newcastle players were cognizant of the weight of so many years without silverware, making the victory even sweeter.
"We were well aware of the history and we wanted to do the club proud," Howe said. "We wanted to score, we wanted to perform and we wanted to win.
"We are breaking new ground, I thought we were magnificent today."
