Dario Essugo will sign a seven-year contract when he joins Chelsea from Sporting CP in a deal worth €22 million in the summer transfer window.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Dario Essugo is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues were scouring the market for a midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window and have sealed an agreement over a deal worth €22 million. The Portuguese whizkid will sign a seven-year contract when he arrives from Sporting CP.
Dario Essugo and his career so far
Dario Essugo is the latest highly-rated prospect to graduate from the fabled academy at Sporting CP and rise in prominence. The Lisbon native began his youth career at UDR Santa Maria in 2013 before joining Sporting CP a year later and rising through the ranks at the Primeira Liga club.
Essugo made his first-team bow for Sporting CP as a teenage prospect in March 2021 but has yet to establish a foothold in the senior setup at Estadio Jose Alvalade. However, the 20-year-old has enjoyed a solid loan spell with La Liga club UD Las Palmas this term, turning out 17 times thus far while chipping in with one goal.
Meanwhile, Essugo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League is on the cards for the Portuguese whizkid, with Chelsea sealing an agreement with Sporting CP over a deal worth €22 million.
London calling
Chelsea mulled over sealing a late move for Dario Essugo in the winter transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest makes sense, considering Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Andrey Santos, and Carney Chukwuemeka might depart from Stamford Bridge after the 2024/25 season ends.
So, Essugo emerged as a viable target for Chelsea, and he can be Moises Caicedo’s deputy in the 2025/26 season. So, the West London club wanted to sign a promising midfielder in the summer transfer window and secured an agreement Sporting CP this week. The youngster will sign a seven-year contract when he arrives at Stamford Bridge.
The 20-year-old Portuguese whizkid has already completed his medical checks and will move to London when the summer transfer window opens. Essugo will also reunite with Geovany Quenda at Chelsea when his compatriot arrives at Stamford Bridge next year.
