Football fans have lashed out at ITV after live broadcast bosses issued an apology over some accidental on-air swearing.
On Sunday, Liverpool Football Club faced off against Newcastle United for the Carabao Cup final at Wembley stadium in London. Thousands of fans flocked to the capital to watch the players face off on the pitch - with merriment and frivolity filling the iconic stadium as well as in pubs and streets throughout the capital and beyond.
ITV broadcast the sporting event - with cameras catching a little more of the on-pitch action than anticipated. Cameras got up close to both teams ahead of kick off - with Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk heard letting out a swear word while urging his side on to victory.
With a camera man mere centimeters away from him and the squad, it was near impossible for viewers to miss him urging his team: “We worked so hard to be here. Let’s f***ing do this together, come on.” After the f-bomb made its way to air, ITV quickly issued an apology to anyone that was offended by the bad language.

But this action only encouraged fans to flip off at the network for saying sorry over a passionate pep talk. Taking to X, fans raged at the channel - with one writing: “We live in a time of wet wipes.” Another declared: “Stop apologising for bad language when covering sports. You poked a camera into a team talk, what did you expect?”
A further fan complained: “Utter nonsense by ITV.” While another typed: “If that offends you switch off the footy and watch Songs of Praise.” And yet another fan complained: “I’d have been surprised if there hadn’t been swearing!”
As the game got under way, viewers continued to share their opinions about the game - with many declaring Newcastle were playing better than their rivals from the other coast of the country. Dan Burn scored the first goal of the game - sparking raucous celebrations from the Newcastle team.
And the team pulled further towards victory when Alexander Isak scored a second goal for Newcastle. One fan wrote on X: "Safe to say Dan Burn enjoyed his Wembley moment."
Sport fans may be surprised to note that Dan has just nine fingers - with a gruesome tale behind the fact that he is missing one of his digits. The 32-year-old was born with all 10 intact - but had one of the fingers on his right had was ripped off when he was 13.
Reports have suggested he was climbing a fence while wearing a ring on his finger which then got caught on a spike on the fence, pulling the third finger on his right hand clean off. The footballer has never publicly discussed the incident but it appears he is able to joke about it as he was seen last year laughing about his finger during a visit to the Adidas headquarters in Germany with his teammates.
