‘I hope’: Bruno Fernandes makes odd request to Rasmus Hojlund after scoring against Leicester

Bruno Fernandes was at the heart of another improved Manchester United performance in the Premier League, a 3-0 win away to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s struggling Leicester City side.

As expected, it was a comfortable evening for Man United, and Fernandes himself was able to bag two assists and a superb goal late on.

Of course, it was struggling striker Rasmus Hojlund who opened the scoring for Ruben Amorim’s side, a moment that everyone associated with United will have enjoyed.

Paul Scholes gave Amorim some Hojlund advice recently, a striker who always works relentlessly hard even when he’s not finishing his chances in front of goal.

And it was a redeeming moment to see the Dane score on the road, a goal that will give him confidence heading into the international break.

Bruno Fernandes hopes Rasmus Hojlund will stop scoring over the international break

That being said, Fernandes jovially referenced Hojlund’s efforts with Denmark over the break when speaking via the Premier League.

The United captain was ‘very pleased’ for Hojlund to get his goal, but he did admit that he hopes his teammate takes a fortnight off from scoring, given that Portugal will play Denmark over the international break.

Initially speaking about the win, Fernandes said: “Obviously very pleased, very important to get the job done today. We know Leicester are fighting for their lives, we had to be at our best level.

“First half we commit a lot of mistakes in transition, we lost too many balls. Second half we were much better at getting control. You can see some progress. This progress has to go on and on.”

Then specifically asked about Hojlund, he continued: “It was very important for us. For strikers, it’s about scoring goals. They need to feel important. I’m very happy and very pleased.

“For the next two weeks I hope he doesn’t score any more because he’s going to play against me in the national team, and then when he comes back he can get back to scoring goals again.”

Ruben Amorim says what he likes the most about Bruno Fernandes

Joshua Zirkzee summed up Amorim in one word recently, a statement that looked accurate at the King Power Stadium.

And when speaking to BBC Match of the Day himself, Amorim was delighted with his captain Fernandes, who just continues to deliver.

Amorim said that Fernandes was in a ‘good moment’ and praised the Portuguese midfielder’s versatility of late.

He said: “He is a very good player, he is in a good moment, but what I like most is the way he works in every position to help the team.”

A good win for United and more sign of progress, even if it feels as if Leicester are there for the taking right now.
