Arsenal beat Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The game saw Gabriel Martinelli start his first match since he suffered a hamstring injury against Newcastle United and Martin Odegaard is hoping Bukayo Saka isn’t too far behind.

The Gunners have been without their main attackers since the start of the year. Bukayo Saka has been out since before Christmas, while Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus were both sidelined in January. More recently Kai Havertz was ruled out for the remainder of the season during the trip to Dubai.

Due to the injury crisis, Arsenal have failed to keep up with Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. Following today’s victory the Gunners currently sit 12 points behind Arne Slot’s men with nine games to play.

Mikel Arteta says his side won’t give up until it’s mathematically impossible, but it would take a huge collapse from Liverpool to let Arsenal back in the race.

Martin Odegaard is hoping Bukayo Sake’s return after the international break will give Arsenal the boost they need ahead of the final couple of month of the season.

Martin Odegaard: “It was great to see Gabi [Martinelli] come back from injury last week against Man United & hopefully Bukayo [Saka] won’t be too far behind him — he’s around us every day at Sobha & he’s so determined to come back as soon as he can.

“I know what it’s like when you feel you are so close to being able to play, but not quite there, you feel you are ready, but he just has to make sure he takes his time & is fully sharp when he does get back out on the pitch.

“He’s getting closer & we want to see him back as well of course, because losing his qualities is a big miss for any team.”
