The ecstatic pair immediately took to social media with a celebratory video shared with their fans. Surrounded by other supporters, they beamed into Dec's phone camera as they captured the jubilant scene for their TikTok audience, reports the Mirror.

In the video posted by Dec, he passionately exclaimed: "Well? We did it!" And between gasps, Ant added: "Toot toot. I've lost my voice. Oh my god, this is amazing."

Dec went on to affirm with great fervour: "I can't believe it. This is the best day of my life. Apart from my wedding, and the kids. But it's the best day of my life."

The match was not without its share of controversy, as ITV found itself in a position where it had to issue an apology for some unexpected profanity. Before kick-off, the cameras zoomed in on the teams, capturing Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk in the midst of a motivational speech, during which he let slip a curse word to fire up his teammates.

With the camera operator only a few centimetres away, viewers clearly heard him rally his team with the words: "We worked so hard to be here. Let's f***ing do this together, come on."

When the expletive was broadcast, ITV promptly apologised to those who might have been offended by the language used.

However, the network's apology seemed to provoke further irritation among fans, who took to social media to vent their frustration at the channel. One viewer expressed their annoyance online: "We live in a time of wet wipes."

Another stated emphatically: "Stop apologising for bad language when covering sports. You poked a camera into a team talk, what did you expect?".

Another fan voiced their displeasure: "Utter nonsense by ITV."

Meanwhile, one suggested: "If that offends you switch off the footy and watch Songs of Praise."

And another added: "I'd have been surprised if there hadn't been swearing!".

As the match kicked off, spectators didn't hold back their views, with a significant number asserting that Newcastle was outperforming their coastal rivals. The first goal of the game, netted by Dan Burn, ignited wild celebrations among the Newcastle squad.
