Anthony Edwards goes for 41 points as Timberwolves crush Jazz

MINNEAPOLIS — Anthony Edwards scored 41 points on 16-for-27 shooting, and the Minnesota Timberwolves cruised to a 128-102 win over the Utah Jazz on Sunday night at the Target Center.

Jaden McDaniels added 20 points and 12 rebounds for Minnesota (40-29), which won its eighth game in a row. Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo scored 11 points apiece.

Collin Sexton netted 22 points on 9-for-18 shooting to lead Utah (15-53). Walker Kessler posted 15 points and 19 rebounds.

Minnesota shot 49.5% (48 of 97) from the field and 32.6% (14 of 43) from beyond the arc. Utah shot 43.3% (39 of 90) overall and 31.6% (12 of 38) from long distance.

The Timberwolves jumped to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Naz Reid pulled down an offensive rebound and made a layup to give Minnesota a 34-15 advantage with 2:02 to go in the opening quarter.

The Jazz finished the first quarter with baskets from Kyle Filipowski and Johnny Juzang, the latter a 3-pointer, to pull within 34-20.

Minnesota rebuilt its lead to 17 points at 62-45 late in the first half after Edwards made a driving layup with 1:21 remaining.

Lauri Markkanen made back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the deficit to 62-51 at the half. Sexton assisted on the first 3-pointer, and Isaiah Collier assisted on the second.

The Timberwolves posted a 37-25 edge in the third quarter to increase their lead to 99-76.

McDaniels gave Minnesota a 20-point lead when he made a driving layup to give his team a 90-70 cushion with 3:22 to go in the third.

Filipowski made a jump shot on the next possession, but Utah trailed by double digits for the rest of the way.

Edwards sank a 3-pointer to put the Timberwolves on top by 25 points with 31.7 seconds left in the third quarter before Sexton answered with a layup with 11.3 seconds to go.

The Timberwolves scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to increase their lead to 104-76. Terrence Shannon Jr. made a basket, and DiVincenzo knocked down a 3-pointer.
