Women’s League Cup

Chelsea are League Cup champions, defeating Manchester City 2-1.

Mayra Ramirez scored early in the game, setting the scene. City pressed hard for an equaliser and found it in the 64th minute through Aoba Fujino. However, an own goal would prove their undoing, with Chelsea able to maintain their unbeaten season in all competitions and lift the first available trophy.

Mary Fowler started and played the full game for City. Sam Kerr was unavailable for Chelsea in this game but is expected to return to play in the coming weeks.

Women’s Super League

Arsenal finished the round in second after they defeated Everton 3-1. Alessia Russo scored a brace as the Gunners eased past their opponents and bounced back after their FA Cup defeat last weekend. Steph Catley started and played the full game for Arsenal at centre-back, while Kyra Cooney-Cross and Caitlin Foord were second-half substitutes. Clare Wheeler made her return from injury for Everton in the 62nd minute.

Arsenal were able to leapfrog Manchester United because the other result on Saturday (AEDT) saw Liverpool defeat United 3-1. A brace to Olivia Smith either side of a goal for Fuka Nagano helped Liverpool to an upset victory that may have serious consequences for United’s season. Teagan Micah was an unused substitute for Liverpool.

Brighton & Hove Albion have shaken off their poor form to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0. Fran Kirby was the sole goal scorer in what was a fairly dominant performance from the Seagulls. Hayley Raso was introduced in the second half for Spurs while Clare Hunt was an unused substitute. Charli Grant was unavailable for this match with concussion.

The final match of the round did not involve any CommBank Matildas, but was highly consequential, with Crystal Palace defeating Aston Villa 3-1. The result means that Palace are now only one point away from Villa, who – along with Leicester City, only two points above them – risk being pulled into relegation.

Women’s Championship

Birmingham City did just enough to defeat Southampton 2-1 and keep their place on top of the table. Simone Magill and Choe Yu-ri were the goal scorers as they continue to have their noses in front in the promotion race. Emily van Egmond started and played 75 minutes for the Blues.

United States

The Portland Thorns were defeated by KC Current 3-1 in their NWSL season opener. Temwa Chawinga, Michelle Cooper and Debinha were on the scoresheet for the Current as they blew the Thorns away in the first half. Mackenzie Arnold and Kaitlyn Torpey both started and played the full match for the Thorns.

NC Courage started their season with a 1-1 draw with Racing Louisville. Emma Sears scored first for Louisville before Riley Jackson equalised in the second half for the Courage. Cortnee Vine was a second-half substitute for the Courage.

Angel City and San Diego played out a 1-1 draw to start the season. Wave took the lead just five minutes into the game through Gia Corley, which saw the visitors take a 1-0 lead into the break. The home side came out the break firing, finding the equaliser through Alyssa Thompson.

Both teams had chances to snatch the win and all three points, but both had to settle for a point in the SoCal rivalry. Alanna Kennedy started and played the full game in midfield for Angel City.

France

Ellie Carpenter scored a brace as Lyon defeated Reims 8-1. Lyon ran riot over their opponents, scoring six of their goals in the second half, including both of Carpenter’s. The right-back started the match and played the full game.

Sweden

Kristianstads DFF fell 1-0 to IFK Norrköping in a result that saw them miss out on Swedish Cup semi-final qualification. Dutch youngster Jada Conijnenberg was the decisive goalscorer for the visitors. Remy Siemsen started the match for Kristianstads.

AIK Fotboll defeated KIF Örebro DFF 2-1 to end their Swedish Cup campaign on a high. 16-year-old Nova Aselin was the goalscorer for AIK while an own goal helped them to victory. Jada Whyman remains unavailable with injury.

Denmark

FC Nordsjælland started their 2025 league campaign with a win, overcoming Odense Boldklub 2-1. Ava Walter was the goal scorer for the defending champions before an own goal gave them the lead in the second half. Captain Winonah Heatley started and played the full match for Nordsjælland.

Netherlands

FC Twente are through to the KNVB Women’s Cup semi-finals, defeating Den Haag 1-0. Jaimy Ravensbergen was the sole goal scorer in the first half as Twente held on to the lead for the remainder of the match. Daniela Galic was an unused substitute.

Germany

TSG Hoffenheim took advantage of an early red card to their opponents, defeating Köln 5-1 in the league. Selina Cerci scored a brace as Hoffenheim eased to the three points. Jamilla Rankin was an unused substitute for Hoffenheim.
