Anthony Edwards Reaches Notable Milestone in Timberwolves’ Eighth Straight Win

Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Anthony Edwards has been a nightmare for defenses during the team's eight-game winning streak.

Through his first seven games in March, Edwards had averaged 26.6 points per game on 49.6% shooting from the field. On Sunday, he turned in another superb performance in a 128-102 home victory over the Utah Jazz.

Edwards scored 21 of his 41 points in the first quarter and shot 59.3% from the field. He also added to his highlight reel when he flew past Jazz center Walker Kessler for a dunk late in the first quarter.

Edwards has now passed Andrew Wiggins for the third-most points (8,731) in franchise history and set a Minnesota record for most 40-plus point games in a season, with seven.

Edwards, 23, is having one of the best years of his career this season. Through his first 65 games, he has averaged career highs in points per game (27.2), rebounds per game (5.9) and 3-point percentage (40.6%).

Despite the impressive numbers, Edwards isn't expected to win MVP. Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic are in a tight race for the award. In NBA.com's Shaun Powell's updated Kia MVP ladder, he ranks Jokic at No. 1 and Gilgeous-Alexander at No. 2. Edwards, meanwhile, isn't listed.

However, Minnesota could make up ground in the Western Conference Playoff race if Edwards continues to play at a high level. The Timberwolves (40-29) are seventh in the conference behind the Golden State Warriors (39-28). Minnesota will aim to win its ninth straight in Monday's home game against the Indiana Pacers (37-29) at 8 p.m. ET.
