Zabarnyi certain 'results will come' but must stop conceding 'stupid' goals

Bournemouth were beaten 2-1 by Brentford at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, conceding from a corner and a long throw after a Vitaly Janelt own goal had given them the lead.

Zabarnyi returned from suspension and put in a solid performance at centre back, before he was replaced by Daniel Jebbison with five minutes to play as the Cherries sought a late equaliser.

But that didn’t come and the Cherries were beaten for the fourth time in six games in the Premier League.

The result means the Cherries are still in the pack chasing Europe – but some gaps in points have begun to open up – although Bournemouth are just four points off Manchester City in fifth.

The Ukrainian said they must not panic and the defeat wasn’t decisive for the Cherries season – and they can still qualify for Europe.

“But this is part of the game, but we have to continue in the way we were playing before and I’m sure results will come.”

Andoni Iraola’s side return to action after the international break at home against Manchester City in the FA Cup quarterfinal.

Zabarnyi said the cup game is a big chance to bounce straight back from the disappointing run.

“Every game for us is massive,” he said.

“For me, it doesn’t matter if it is the FA Cup or the Premier League, every game is important.

“We must give our maximum.”

Asked if that is a concern and why they seem to be struggling in front of the Dean Court crowd, Zabarnyi said: “I don’t think we are.

“From what I see, I think we are playing well. It’s just we are conceding stupid goals. We don’t need that.

“We also didn’t score more in our moments and that is why we lost today.”

On if the extended gap between games with the international break makes it harder to get the defeat to the Bees out of the system straight away, the Ukrainian said: “No, I don’t think so.

“I now have an international game [Ukraine v Belgium, Nations League play-off next Thursday].

“For me, it is important to now go there and represent my country. It will refresh my head and then I will come back and go again.”

After the Man City game in the cup, the Cherries return to league action at home against Ipswich Town.
