Tino Livramento made Mohamed Salah do something he's not done in 392 games in Newcastle United…

Tino Livramento was sensational in Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup final win and ensured Mohamed Salah had his worst ever performance for Liverpool in the process.

Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup in heroic fashion on Sunday as they defeated Liverpool 2-1 to bring their 70-year trophy drought to an end.

The towering Dan Burn and clinical Alexander Isak got the goals either side of the break as Newcastle won duels all over the field in a massive performance.

Federico Chiesa pulled one back deep into added time to set up a terrifying final few minutes but it was to be Newcastle’s day at Wembley.

There were several remarkable performances across the field but Tino Livramento’s job on Mohamed Salah was one of the best.

Salah doesn’t even get a shot against Newcastle

Newcastle went into the game without several injured stars and the suspended Anthony Gordon.

Ahead of time, the biggest loss appeared to be Lewis Hall given the great job he did against Salah in the recent Premier League defeat.

Livramento was the man tasked with filling in at left-back on his unnatural side against the in-form forward.

Yet, despite everything going against him, it was the Newcastle man who won the battle and ensured Salah didn’t have a shot or even make a key pass in the game.

According to SCOUTED on X, that’s the first time that’s happened to Salah in 392 matches for Liverpool.

Eddie Howe names Newcastle star a ‘colossus’

Newcastle manager Howe was full of praise for his entire squad for the brilliant performance but it was Burn in particular who came in for praise.

Not only did the giant centre-back score the crucial opener, but he was rock solid at the back and a constant threat in the opposite box.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Howe said: “We were well aware of the history and we wanted to do the club proud. We wanted to score, we wanted to perform and we wanted to win.

“We are breaking new ground, I thought we were magnificent today.

“We worked consistently for two weeks on set plays just for this game and if you had seen us in practice you would have said we haad no chance.

“We couldn’t believe Dan Burn scored – he didn’t train like that! He was a colossus for us.”
