Barcelona hit with fresh concern as two stars pick up knocks vs Atletico Madrid

Barcelona once again showed why they are the real deal this season by securing a memorable 4-2 win over Atletico Madrid.

Despite trailing for the majority of the game, Barça pulled a rabbit out of the hat in the last 15 minutes, scoring four goals in quick succession.

While attackers showed up during the final phase of the game, a couple of Barcelona players had to endure a rough night at Metropolitano – Marc Casado and Inigo Martinez.

While the two didn’t exactly perform badly, both picked up knocks against Atletico Madrid, which initially led to fears over potential injuries.

Update on Martinez and Casado’s fitness

Shortly after the game, Toni Juanmarti has issued an update on the fitness of both Martinez and Casado.

In the case of Casado, it appears the young midfielder suffered a severe blow to his knee and had to withstand a lot of pain.

Casado was handed a start in the absence of Frenkie de Jong, who was suffering from discomfort. But the midfielder was replaced during the 67th minute, as he made way for Eric Garcia.

Juanmarti suggests there is optimism surrounding the fitness of Casado, but it appears Barcelona are awaiting further tests and proceeding with caution.

As for Martinez, there are no real concerns over the veteran defender’s fitness, whose knock doesn’t appear to be quite serious.

This could serve as a major relief for coach Hansi Flick, who is expected to count on the veteran’s services during the final phase of the campaign.

Although Flick has Ronald Araujo as a backup, Martinez’s understanding and combination with Pau Cubarsi in central defence cannot understated.
