‘Brilliant’ Manchester United star could have beaten Bruno Fernandes to man of the match, claims MUTV pundit

Bruno Fernandes led the way as Manchester United wrapped up another victory.

It says a lot about Manchester United’s season that a two-game winning streak is something to be cherished.

The 3-0 victory over Leicester followed a 4-1 win at home to Real Sociedad, and there is suddenly a feelgood factor at the club heading into the international break.

Bruno Fernandes was typically outstanding. He scored one goal and assisted two, on an evening Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho broke their scoring droughts.

Praise for Matthijs de Ligt

Bruno Fernandes was Manchester United’s man of the match, orchestrating the 3-0 away win, to tally 32 goal contributions for the season.

Speaking on MUTV, former star Wes Brown expressed his appreciation of Fernandes’ quality, but also named the player he felt ran him close.

Brown picked out Matthijs de Ligt as the player who stood out, with the defender continuing to prove doubters wrong.

When asked to name his man of the match, he responded: “De Ligt was brilliant today, if it wasn’t for Bruno’s two assists and a goal, he might have just got in there.

“For me, it has to be Bruno again, top form. The chances he makes for the players, and then when he gets a chance himself, puts himself in a perfect position, the way he strikes a ball, one out of two is on target every time, and gets himself another goal.”

De Ligt commanding in defence

Matthijs de Ligt made one outstanding late block to deny Jamie Vardy late in the game, showing how he was determined to help United clinch a first Premier League clean sheet since January.

This was one of two blocks De Ligt made during the game, he also made six clearances and one interception.

In recent weeks De Ligt has been one of United’s most consistent players, standing up amid injuries to almost every other key defensive starter.

He has also really helped youngster Ayden Heaven in recent weeks, although unfortunately the teenager had to be stretchered off with an injury.

The international break should allow more time for some of United’s stars to recover, we just hope De Ligt can stay fit and continue where he left off.
