Newcastle United assistant manager Graeme Jones echoed how every Geordie is feeling following the Carabao Cup triumph.
Born in Gateshead, the 55-year-old knew better than anyone on the coaching setup how much silverware would mean to Toon supporters. Jones joined Newcastle in January 2021 and, despite the Saudi-backed takeover nine months later, remained on Eddie Howe’s backroom team.
He has now etched his name into United folklore by being part of the setup that ended the 70-year curse for domestic silverware. Newcastle were deserved winners as Premier League leaders Liverpool came undone at Wembley.
Local hero Dan Burn and Alexander Isak did the damage - and will now likely never need to buy a pint again on Tyneside. Assistant coach Jones soaked up the post-match celebrations while reflecting on how much the victory meant to Newcastle as a club and city.

“I was lucky enough at Wigan (Athletic) to create history (in 2013) when we won the FA Cup. But when you’re trying to rewrite history, when you’ve got history suppressing you, it’s been the biggest challenge of our life,” he told NewcastleWorld. “As a group of players and staff, I can’t begin to tell you how we feel.
“It’s the greatest day of my life. My wife is going to kill me for saying that! But if you’re black and white, you’re a Newcastle fan. I just can’t put it into words. I cannot tell you how happy I am.”
Jones also singled out match-winner Burn for praise after living every Geordie’s dream in reality. The 6ft 7in defender scored the opener before going on to earn the man-of-the-match award.
“If Carlsberg do careers then this is it with Dan,” he added. “He scored a goal in the Carabao Cup final and he’s been called up for England. I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am. Our people deserve that. We’ve broken the voodoo and I can’t begin to tell you how that feels. The staff and players at this football club are so together.”
