Liverpool players have showed their true colours with a classy touch after the Carabao Cup final.

The Reds' dreams of getting their hands on the first piece of silverware of the season were shattered on Sunday afternoon as Newcastle stunned Arne Slot's side at Wembley.

Federico Chiesa's goal was too little too late for Slot and his side as Dan Burn and Alexander Isak found the net for Newcastle. And as the Newcastle lifted their first trophy for 70 years, Liverpool players paid tribute to them with a classy gesture.

Cody Gakpo was one of the Liverpool players to personally congratulate the winners. While Slot sportingly waited behind to shake the hand of every Newcastle player as they climbed the steps after admitting his side had been 'outplayed in their style'.

Slot said: "We were outplayed in their style, yeah, that’s true. That is what you can call outplayed. Yeah, they won more duels than us. Is that what you mean? Is that outworking?

"Outplayed for me is if you don’t touch the ball and they play through you every single time we tried to press them, every time you’re too late. That is for me outplayed.

"But I agree with you if you say that they deserved to win because the game went in the way they wanted it to go. Yes, they deserved to win, but it wasn’t like we were only running after them.
