The ball is already rolling ahead of a summer transfer between Aston Villa and Chelsea.

Aston Villa will reportedly have the opportunity to make Axel Disasi’s transfer from Chelsea permanent this summer as the defender is not in the Blues’ future plans.

Currently on loan at Villa until the end of the season following his arrival late on Deadline Day, Disasi has enjoyed a superb start to life in the West Midlands. The 27-year-old has played a part in six of Villa’s nine matches across all competitions since arriving through the doors at Villa Park and is already highly thought-of by supporters.

Disasi’s best appearance so far was in the narrow 1-0 win away at Brentford as the defender took home the Player of the Match award following a robust display in an auxiliary right-back role. The Frenchman is typically a centre-half but filled in at full-back and did excellently, keeping the likes of Bryan Mbuemo, Kevin Schade and Keane Lewis-Potter at bay.

Albeit unlikely to be a starter every week as Villa reach the crunch point of the season, Disasi is expected to rotate in and out as Unai Emery aims to keep legs as fresh as possible. He’s done well both in the middle and on the right, so Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa and Andres Garcia can all remain sharp through Disasi’s presence.

Could Aston Villa sign Axel Disasi permanently?

Unai Emery wants a new centre-back recruited this summer and preferably one who can also be deployed at right-back, so could Disasi be signed permanently? Well, according to a recent update from transfer news specialist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea would be very open to allowing that to happen.

Posting to X (formerly Twitter), Romano said: “Chelsea next priority for the summer remains the new striker, with a new winger also expected to join. The plan is to sell 7/8 players in the summer including some of those currently on loan like Kepa, Disasi and more.”

Enzo Maresca - much like previous Chelsea managers - simply has too many players at his disposal at Stamford Bridge and needs to cut the numbers. There’s only so much loaning out a club can do and the Blues are already renowned for shipping off half their squad on temporary ventures away each campaign.

Disasi being named by Romano as one of the players Chelsea are planning on selling is great news for Villa if they want to bring him in for the long term. The five-time former France international still has over four years left on his Chelsea contract but their desire to let him go could bring down his asking price.

Signed from AS Monaco for £38.8 million in August 2023, Disasi is unlikely to generate such a fee this time around. Villa wouldn’t be willing to shell out that much, anyway, so negotiations would need to take place to determine a fair price.

One thing that does seem certain, Disasi would be eager to ditch Stamford Bridge for Villa Park. The Frenchman insisted on joining Villa on loan despite several lucrative approaches from Tottenham Hotspur and has displayed immense passion for the badge in every match he’s played.
