David Ornstein Issues Update As Arsenal Are Linked With £110M Raid For Two Midfielders

Arsenal will not sign both Martin Zubimendi and Bruno Guimaraes this summer, according to journalist David Ornstein.

The Gunners have been tipped to revive their interest in Newcastle’s Guimaraes in recent days, but Ornstein doesn’t believe the club would sanction a move for the Brazilian, especially if Zubimendi also makes the switch to the Emirates:

“This is a personal opinion rather than sourced information; I don’t see Arsenal signing BOTH Martin Zubimendi & Bruno Guimaraes.”

“We know of the historical Guimarães links, but that ship seemed to have sailed & I’m not sure I can envisage Arsenal paying the kind of money Newcastle would ask for, especially given he turns 28 this year.”

It would cost Arsenal AT LEAST £110m to sign the two midfielders

The cost of purchasing Zubimendi is already known. The Spanish international has a €60m (£50m) release clause in his contract and Real Sociedad are not expected to accept a penny below that amount.

It is less clear what Guimaraes’ asking price will be. Some reports circulating suggest a fee of around £60m could be accepted by Newcastle but Ornstein’s comments indicate that the Magpies would want a lot more than that.

Fans should expect a “busy summer” in the transfer market

Incoming sporting director Andrea Berta is said to have a £300m budget to spend on signings. Asked about that specific figure, Ornstein declined to put an estimate on the size of the transfer kitty but he says supporters should not be concerned about the finances:

“There will definitely be room to manoeuvre. I’d expect it to be a pretty busy summer at the Emirates.”

That news will hearten many in the fanbase who are disappointed with how Mikel Arteta’s side have fallen short in the Premier League this campaign.
