Number of dads taking paternity leave has trebled since 2013

The number of fathers who have taken parental leave has trebled in Italy between 2013 and 2022, according to a study carried out by social security and pensions agency INPS and Save the Children published on Monday.

The study found that 19.2% of those who had the right to paternity pay in 2013 took parental leave compared to 64.5% in 2022.

However, over 35% did not take patyernity leave with even higher rates among workers with short-term contracts and employees of small companies, according to the survey, which was based on 2022 data.
