Rangers are looking ahead to more positive times as they wait for the 49ers Enterprises to complete their takeover of the club.

It has been a disastrous season for the Gers who find themselves sitting 13 points away from Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

However, since Barry Ferguson took over as interim manager, there have been positives in Glasgow with form on the up.

With a Europa League victory against Fenerbahce on Thursday (13 March) before beating Celtic in the Old Firm derby, it’s been a week to remember for Ferguson and his squad.

49ers face big Rangers decision

Ferguson was appointed as interim manager at Rangers until the end of the season in the hope of bringing in someone who understands the standards that are expected at Ibrox.

MORE RANGERS STORIES

In the meantime, the new prospective owners, Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe, have been considering who they may turn to when looking to bring in a new manager for next term.

Furthermore, increased investment would indicate the addition of a manager who is well-experienced at a high level and capable of bringing success to Ibrox.

However, with Ferguson having lost only one of his five ties in charge, some are starting to ponder whether Rangers’ answers for success lie closer to home.

Kilmarnock 2-4 Rangers (Scottish Premiership)

Rangers 1-2 Motherwell (Scottish Premiership)

Fenerbahce 1-3 Rangers (Europa League)

Rangers 0-2 Fenerbahce, 3-2 on penalties (Europa League)

Celtic 2-3 Rangers (Scottish Premiership)

Keith Jackson has predicted another problem for Cavenagh and Marathe, writing in the Daily Record: “So when the team of lawyers acting for Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe finally dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s on the deal to take over the club, the new owners will face a massive question over what to do with this force of nature who has ended up calling the shots from the dugout.”

Ferguson staking his claim for Rangers managerial position

Given Ferguson’s lack of experience at a high level, it’s not a massive surprise that not everyone expected the boss to hit the ground running on his arrival at Ibrox.

The appointment seemed to be much more about changing the mindset of the players and boosting morale to get through the end of this season.

However, not only is his record so far impressive, but Ferguson is also beating very good teams and getting the Gers back to the levels they should be at by simply competing.

With that in mind, there is no doubt that Ferguson is showing plenty of people the talent he has and could cause some difficult decisions to be made.

It is still early days and whether the 47-year-old would be able to oversee the scale of the project being undertaken by the 49ers is to be pondered.

That being said, based on how well he’s done so far, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if the new prospective owners were putting their efforts elsewhere for now in the hope that this one will solve itself by the end of the season.
