Wayne Rooney's son, 9,'retires'from football and wants to turn pro in another sport

Wayne Rooney's nine-year-old son Kit wants to be a darts player, according to wife Coleen

Wayne Rooney's son Kit, who is just nine, has "retired" from football and now wants to pursue a career in darts, according to his mother Coleen.

Kit has become a huge darts enthusiast after meeting Luke Littler at Alexandra Palace following his World Darts Championship triumph over Michael van Gerwen in January.

The youngster even decided to have a darts-themed birthday party the same month, with Luke "The Nuke" seemingly inspiring him to turn his back on football and pursue a career on the oche.

Kit is the third-youngest of four brothers, with Kai and Klay both playing in the Manchester United academy - while the youngest Cass has started playing for Everton.

Their father became a legend at Manchester United after scoring 253 goals in 559 appearances at Old Trafford, winning five Premier League titles, one Champions League title, one FA Cup and three League Cups.

His wife Coleen said nearly all their children had been inspired to follow in Rooney's footsteps, except for Kit, who has now "retired" from football and is eyeing up a career in darts.

"Kai, he's 15, and Klay, who's going to be 12 in May, they're both at the academy at Manchester United, they've been there for quite a few years now," she told the Sun.

"The youngest [Cass], he goes in at Everton, he's just turned seven, but he absolutely loves it, and the third one, he's retired. He's retired a few times.

"The third one [Kit] has steak for breakfast, this is the darts one, he wants to become a darts player at the minute. Sometimes he'll have a fried egg with it, but mostly it's just a steak - he'll just have that."

After the Rooney family witnessed Littler's incredible darts victory in January, the former England striker revelled in a special moment with his boys as he posted on Instagram: “What a night for the lads. Congratulations Luke. Unbelievable."

Coleen also posted about the night of darts as she wrote: "Amazing night... kids were buzzing!! Congratulations @lukethenukelittler. That’s me screaming getting beer all over me."
