Everton fans might be rueing this missed opportunity after Eddie Howe’s recent success with Newcastle United.
Evertonians will dream of success like Newcastle’s league cup win against Liverpool on Sunday.
It was a 70-year wait for the Toon Army, as David Moyes hopes to replicate the same with Everton in years to come.
Everything is pointing the right way to this happening, with Moyes saying there is team spirit at Everton.
However, the Toffees could’ve been in Newcastle’s shoes already, with Howe being linked to Goodison Park in 2019, as Jamie Carragher had some strong words on his potential appointment.

Jamie Carragher on Eddie Howe joining Everton in 2019
It’s certainly unimaginable that Everton would be anywhere near winning a trophy, as Moyes hopes to end their 30-year drought.
The 1995 FA Cup win is still pictured by fans who can remember it, and despite Moyes transforming Everton players like Jake O’Brien, there is still a long way to go.
Looking at Howe’s success, Everton could’ve appointed the English manager in 2019, as Farhad Moshiri might have missed a trick.
MORE EVERTON STORIES
This was according to Sky Sports in 2019, as Moyes was also in the running for a return to Everton sooner than expected, with Marco Silva’s position under threat.
Carragher made his feelings clear on Howe’s appointment, which makes for bizarre reading after he claimed Howe was the ‘real deal’ to Sky after Newcastle’s triumph.
Speaking to Monday Night Football in the 2019/20 season, Carragher said: “I’ve got Everton fans in my family, and every candidate they’ve mentioned, they’ve also said they don’t want them.
“Moyes to come back in almost a Sam Allardyce role – they are so against that you wouldn’t believe. Personally, I can’t believe that, considering the job he did.
“It’s like they are judging Moyes on what he’s done since Everton. They don’t want Eddie Howe. There’s talk of Mark Hughes.”

The Friedkin Group’s signings must be smart at Everton like Howe’s Newcastle
Of course, Newcastle have an extreme wealth after their takeover in 2021, but that means there is no excuse for The Friedkin Group.
It was revealed that The Friedkins want money saved for Everton’s summer as the owners and Moyes seem to be working well to create the perfect transfer plan.
But Howe’s work with the Newcastle owners should be exactly how Everton look at it.
Moshiri had a nact to overspend at Everton, and Newcastle could’ve done the same, but have instead stuck with a squad that has worked well and lead them to major success.
Signings such as Dan Burn, Valentino Livramento, and Bruno Guimaraes should be exactly what Moyes is looking for, whilst not spending an extreme amount of money.
It’s an exciting future for Moyes and the Toffees but had Howe joined, their excitement could be at an all-time high now.
