Ayden Heaven’s first Premier League start for Manchester United ended in disappointment as the youngster was stretchered off during Sunday’s clash with Leicester City.

Heaven had been enjoying a strong display before his night was cut short shortly after half-time.

His injury occurred when he stretched to intercept a Jamie Vardy cross, preventing Patson Daka from an excellent chance to equalise.

Andre Onana immediately applauded his efforts.

However concern quickly grew as the teenager remained on the turf in visible discomfort.

Heaven gestured to the bench for assistance, prompting a lengthy stoppage as medical staff assessed him.

After around five minutes of treatment, the defender was stretchered off and replaced by Toby Collyer.

Former Premier League forward Clinton Morrison, covering the game for BBC Radio 5 Live, acknowledged the worrying nature of the situation.

“Ayden Heaven signalled to the bench straight away,” Morrison said.

“Maybe he rolled something but you’ve got to hope the young man is alright.”

Ruben Amorim later provided an update, explaining that the youngster would be assessed further in the coming days.

Ruben Amorim comments on Ayden Heaven injury

“It’s hard to know because we have to evaluate during the week,” Amorim said post-match.

“Even when he was on the ground he cannot speak and doesn’t know to explain what he’s feeling because he’s so young.”

The injury comes amid a rapid rise for Heaven, who only arrived at Old Trafford from Arsenal in February.

He made his senior debut in the FA Cup defeat to Fulham earlier this month.

A game that was prior to making his Premier League bow against his former club Arsenal a week later.

Amorim has shown immense faith in the youngster, handing him successive starts against Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

Followed up with one now in the league against Leicester.

Heaven was highly rated at Arsenal but only made one senior appearance before his surprise move to United.

His absence will now be a concern for Amorim, who has been eager to integrate young talent into his squad.

The worrying moment came after Rasmus Hojlund’s goal broke his long-standing drought.

Hojlund’s goal which gave Manchester United a crucial lead over relegation-battling Leicester.
